FINDING YOUR FIT:
NAVIGATING THE COLLEGE PROCESS

UYSA MASTER LAB FOR BLACK GIRLS & THEIR FAMILIES

Important:
These Labs are for RISING high school juniors, seniors,
and their parents/caregivers (Class of 2023 & 2024).

Did you know that although Black women only make up 12.7% of the female population in the country and yet they consistently make up over 50% of the number of Black people who receive post-secondary degrees? Percentage-wise, Black women outpace white women, Latinas, Asian/Pacific Islanders, and Native Americans in this arena as well. In 2014, Black women were coined as the most educated group of Americans. But how did we get here?

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Why wish when you can create a plan for your future? Completing high school is a big accomplishment and figuring out what to do after high school is often a challenging task. This may be the first time that you are required to make such major decisions regarding your own life. Hopefully, you have started thinking about different career or educational choices and are ready to begin exploring your options. By 2025, almost two out of three jobs in the nation will require at least some postsecondary education or training. But how do you know what post-secondary option to choose?

THURSDAY
APRIL 28 + MAY 5
6:30-7:45pm EST

Enrollment for Master Labs closes on Wednesday Morning of first Master Lab. (4/27)

FINDING YOUR FIT is a workshop designed to answer your questions about educational and training options available after high school. By gaining a better understanding of possible next steps, it will become easier to turn a wish into a meaningful goal for your future.

We will explore topics that address some frequently asked questions:

If I want to go to college, what are my options?
What are the advantages of each of these options?
Do I have to have a lot of money to go to college?
How do I pay for college?
How do I decide which option is best for me?
What is
financial aid?
What is
FAFSA?
Will I have to take out loans?
Will my parents have to take out loans?
Where can I find scholarships?

Girls are expected to attend BOTH Master Labs with their parent/caregiver.
