MEET BRANDI MAPP-EVANS:
Brandi is a trained counselor, educator, and advocate who has worked in the mental health and education field for the past 15 years. She has a B.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling and a M. Ed in Counseling education, both from The Pennsylvania State University. She began her career working with adults with co-occurring addiction and mental health issues. While the work was fulfilling, she knew that she wanted to be doing more with her gift of helping people.
Brandi has always had a passion for young people and has an incredible talent of being able to develop authentic relationships with them. This ability allows her to get to know the young people on a level that enables her to meet them where they are, while also challenging and pushing them to grow to their fullest potential. In 2008 she was presented with the opportunity to work with young people in a residential treatment facility. In this role she not only was a counselor, educator and advocate but she was also a social worker, surrogate mother, cheerleader, and friend. She worked at the treatment facility for 5 years until she was given the chance to work with students in the public school system.
For the past 8 years, Brandi has worked in a charter school as a 10th grade teacher. In the 2019-2020 school year, she was promoted to the College Advisor position where she assists 12th grade students transition successfully into their post-secondary pathways. She previously worked as a Dean of Students, but wanted to challenge herself to work in the role of a classroom teacher. Her previous experience and knowledge of working with people with traumatic backgrounds has helped her to be a very effective and patient teacher. Although it can be exhausting work, Brandi believes it is the most rewarding work that she has done thus far in her career. She mentors dozens of young people in the evenings on the weekends, which only adds to the greater reward of making a difference in the lives of our future leaders.
In 2018 Brandi was trained and certified as a Financial Coach Master Trainer under Dave Ramsey and this year, has implemented the Foundations in Personal Finance curriculum at the high school. She coordinates Financial Peace University classes for people in the community who have a desire to get their financial houses in order, as well as serves as a personal financial coach to clients who seek individual services.
