A SISTERHOOD CIRCLE FOR BLACK GIRLS


IMPORTANT:

1. Before signing up for this Lab, please understand that there are ONLY 10 SPOTS AVAILABLE.
2. All 10 girls will be required to enroll in both PART 1 & PART 2.
3. PART 1 will take place this Cycle on Wednesdays (April 6 - May 11), and PART 2 will take place in the Fall Cycle.

LAB DESCRIPTION:

This Love & Learning Lab is two-part. In the Spring (PART 1), the goal of this Lab is to give Black girls an intentional space to build community, sisterhood, and foster self-efficacy. Here, Black girls will learn to cultivate organic coping mechanisms that feel authentic to their Black girlhood experiences, in a mindful effort to support their healing and mental health awareness/advocacy within and outside of the circle.

LAB INSTRUCTOR:

Lyn N. Atkins is an educator, mentor and servant leader.  She embarked on a “calling into education” over twenty years ago, serving urban communities as a classroom teacher and mentor.  Her greatest joys are working with youth in and out of the classroom.  So much so, that in 2010 she founded D.I.V.A.’s Mentoring Program now #CONVERSATIONSWITHOURYOUNGSISTERS Mentoring Program with a mission to holistically empower young ladies through mentorship, creative education, and real-life experiences.  Her passion for youth has led her to conduct youth symposiums and workshops.  She actively serves on the Leadership Team of UNIQUELY YOU SUMMIT, INC. as the Associate Director of the Girl Exchange (GXC) Program, better known as “GXC.” GXC is one of the most fundamental and impactful portions of the UNIQUELY YOU SUMMIT for Girls experience and our ancillary programming. In addition, Lyn also serves with A Woman’s Business, an international outreach for women, by women to restore the purpose, power and position of women.  Lyn received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rowan University and her Masters of Education in Educational Administration and Leadership from Cheyney University.  Most recently she became a faculty member at Rowan University where she serves as a Professor and Supervisor in the College of Education.  Lyn lives by this quote.  “You can’t lead the people if you don’t love the people.  You can’t save the people if you won’t serve the people.” - Tavis Smiley


LAB DAY, DURATION & TIME:

Wednesdays at 6:30 PM EST
(90 Minutes)
6 Weeks: Wednesday, April 6 - Wednesday, May 11


PART 2 LAB STARTS WEEK OF NOVEMBER 7. 

During PART 2, which will take place in the Fall of 2022, we will take the learned practices and cultivated coping mechanisms that necessitate self-compassion and self-preservation, as well as emboldens advocacy for self-care. The opposite of self-care is self-abuse. As Ava DuVernay said: “When is our interior life ever put at the forefront?” The goal is for Black girls to prioritize themselves and their individual wellness.
