HOLISTIC HEALING & WELLNESS FOR BLACK GIRLS


LAB DESCRIPTION:

This Love & Learning Lab, Holistic Healing & Wellness for Black Girls, is designed to support young girls as they define for themselves what it means to be holistically well. As a group we will explore our existence as sacred beings. We will learn best practices associated with meditation, sacred speech, positive thinking, and holistic, revolutionary self-care. Through guided practice we will design our own rituals to support ourselves in pursuit of wellness. Lab content will be informed by Black History and Culture.

LAB INSTRUCTOR:

Dr. Tiffany D. Pogue (she/her/hers) is an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education and Program Coordinator of Education Foundations at Albany State University. Her research interests include Black Educational History and Philosophy, Black Literacy Traditions, and Community-School Engagement. Dr. Pogue believes that through a critical exploration and examination of history, Black scholars and activists can collaboratively craft a narrative of hope and plan for the improvement of society. Her current work examines the role of Black women’s literacy in the practices of Black spirituality, Black educational activism, and Black cultural preservation. Dr. Pogue is an Eric Thomas and Associates Certified Speaker. 

Dr. Pogue is Founder and Lead Consultant at Pogue Educational Consulting. The company provides training, workshops, equity audits, writing support, and more to aid organizations in ensuring quality education for all learners. 

To provide support for her local community, Dr. Pogue teaches free Black History Classes (Sankofa Sessions) in her hometown. She also hosts a Youtube series with Guided Meditations designed to help women achieve holistic professional and personal success. 

Dr. Pogue is co-Director of Teaching in the Urban South (TITUS) is a network of scholars, practitioners, parents, students, and other community stakeholders seeking to (re)create solution- oriented practices that best serve marginalized students in the Urban South.
