JAELYNN PEARSON, 18

My name is Jaelynn Pearson, I am 18 years old and I am from Philadelphia, PA. I am a freshman in college and I am studying Psychology with a concentration in mental health. I know that I want to help children understand their minds and how it makes them who they are. Besides a love for the mind and mental well-being, I love the arts, being active, and giving back to my community. I dance ballet, jazz, and pointe and I started dancing when I was 4-years-old. I do consider dance a sport and an art… because it is. Besides dancing, I write and sing my own music and help other artists with background vocals. I have five songs across two albums and a few more songs coming out on my high school’s record label, Hill-Freedman Records. The songs currently out are “Tell Me Why,” “Kingdom,” “Diary of a Sorry Sis,” “24-7,” and “Time Stops For No One.” The songs to come are ones I helped other students write and sing on, and a few are again my own works: “Calm Rainy Day,” “Day Into Night,” “Only Our Best,” “Pretty People,” and “Hold On.” I love being creative through writing and drawing. I also enjoy being active through sports such as volleyball where I was the captain for two years, basketball, and discus. Lastly, something that’s helped make me me is giving back to the community — whether it be cleaning streets, fundraising, walking for a purpose, and raising awareness, all these efforts are ways to show the community that helped raise you that you care for it. There's a lot that makes someone uniquely them and these are just a few things that make me uniquely me. For the Love of Black Girls is a home, a place where you’ll be able to be heard and learn from others experiences. It's a safe space full of love and acceptance and it's an extremely important space to have “For The Love of Black Girls.”
